Nace el 18 de Enero de 1904 en Bristol (Inglaterra). Su verdadero nombre es Alexander Archibald Leach. Fallece el 29 de noviembre de 1986.
En 1920 viaja a Estados Unidos, dónde se inicia en el mundo del espectáculo como bufón, en el hipódromo de Nueva York. En 1927 debuta como cantante en la comedia musical Golden Dawn.
En 1932 es contratado por la Paramount y se da a conocer en un papel secundario con el seudónimo artístico de Cary Grant. Pronto destacaría como excelente galán de comedias formando pareja con las estrellas del momento: Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Jean Harlow, Katharine Hepburn, Irene Dunne... Fue el actor predilecto de Howard Hawks y de Alfred Hitchcock, trabajando en cinco ocasiones con el primero y en cuatro con el segundo.
Trabajó
en 74 películas, desde 1932 hasta 1970. Fue nominado al Oscar en
dos ocasiones, por "Serenata nostálgica" y "Un corazón en
peligro". Recibió un Óscar honorífico en 1969.
